Zero Expectations

First Impressions of ADA 2022

I recently attended my first American Diabetes Association 82nd Scientific Science conference in New Orleans, LA. Other than being excited to learn more about what is on the horizon for diabetes management and visiting every exhibitor booth, I really didn’t have any expectations.

In a nutshell, there were 6,600+ attendees and the halls were filled with diabetes chit chat in various languages. I was surrounded by people who are on the forefront of all things diabetes. I shared my patient perspective breakdown of the conference in a recent article for the diaTribe Foundation

The venue was filled with advocates, researchers, endocrinologists and tech gurus who enjoyed  lively discussions, networking and some delicious food. Good times were had and I had the pleasure of connecting with past Real Life Diabetes podcast guest, Dr. Trang Ly, Senior Vice President and Medical Director at Insulet Corporation (Episode #112 & #114). I also had a lovely discussion with Molly Johannes from the College Diabetes Network.

WILD about diabetes

women in diabetes frontrunners

My first “in person event” while in NOLA was the  WILD - Advancing Women’s Leadership in Diabetes - hosted by Close Concerns. WILD is an invitation-based network of senior and emerging women leaders across the diabetes ecosystem who deliver best-in-class leadership programming and networking to educate, connect, support, inspire, and advance women and to collectively improve outcomes for people with diabetes. My kind of people!

I was surrounded by equally passionate women who want the best outcome for people living with diabetes and it was SO nice to meet friends from across the globe in person for the first time.
